Serum Cytokine Levels in Patients with Chronic Atopic Dermatitis: a Useful Nidhal Abdul-Muhaimen Marker for Disease Activity

چکیده
Objective: To measure the serum level of IL4, IL10 and IFN-gamma of Atopic patients before and after treatment with tacrolimus ointment or topical steroid by using enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) to evaluate the disease activity. Methods: IL4, IL10 and IFN-gamma concentrations in the serum were measured by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay in fifty atopic dermatitis patients were giving two types of treatment and 43/50 were re-analyzed after one month of treatment with tacrolimus or topical and systemic steroids. The severity of atopic dermatitis was graded on the criteria of Hanifin and Rajika. The disease activity was assessed by each patient on a visual analogue scale (VAS). Results: Higher serum IFN-γ, IL-10 and IL-4 concentrations were found in AD patients sera at the time of diagnosis and correlated with disease activity before and after treatment. Serum IFN-γ, IL-10 and IL-4 concentrations also correlated with VAS scores for itching, skin condition; overall skin symptoms and total VAS score. Serum IFN-γ concentration could be a good indicator to define the degree of the general activity in chronic AD patients, also IFN-γ can play a role in the immuno-pathogenesis of AD, and furthermore may be used in the diagnosis and follow up of the disease in addition to other parameters. Conclusion: The sera of patients group revealed a statistically significant increase in the concentration of IFN-gamma, IL-4 and IL-10 before treatment when compared with that of the same patients after treatment with topical tacrolimus-steroid and also there were no statistically significant differences between two treatments.

Serum and whole blood Selenium in children with Atopic Dermatitis: A case-control study
Background and aim: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, inflammatory, pruritic skin disease usually observed in patients with other allergies. Decreased selenium levels and improvement with selenium supplement are reported in AD. The aim of this study was to compare serum and whole blood selenium in children with AD and control group.Materials and Methods: In an age-se...
متن کاملAssociation of LL-37 and IL-31 serum levels with SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) score in atopic dermatitis patients
Background: Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, recurrent inflammation of the skin, accompanied by severe pruritus. Immune system dysregulation and skin barrier defects are associated with the abnormalities in atopic dermatitis. Myriad pieces of evidence have pointed to the major roles of LL-37 and interleukin-31 (IL31)in atopic dermatitis. The studies on atopic dermatitis are still limited i...
متن کاملOral Selenium in the treatment of refractory severe Atopic dermatitis: Report of 4 cases
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, inflammatory and pruritic skin disease with a prevalence of 10-20%. Recent studies suggested the effect of selenium on immunoregulation in AD. In this study we report 4 cases of atopic dermatitis according to Hafniin and Rajka criteria. Serum selenium levels were increased and serum total IgE were decreased in all patients. These results show that selenium i...
متن کاملCorrelation of total serum IgE and density of house dust mites with severity of Atopic Dermatitis
Background and aim: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic relapsing skin disease that commonly begins during infancy and early childhood. Research studies refers to a relationship between exacerbation of atopic dermatitis and exposure to house dust mite (HDM), but the role of HDM in the pathogenesis of AD is controversial. The objecitve of this study was to assess the correlation of density...
متن کاملRelationship Between Serum Interleukin-17F Level and Severity of Atopic Dermatitis in Children.
Background: Recent discovery of the Th17 pathway is providing new opportunities for understanding chronic immune-mediated diseases. The Th17 pathway has been historically associated with chronic inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Among Th17 cytokines, pathogenic roles of IL-17A and IL-17F in asthma have been well described. Recently, the numbe...
